Personally I think it's a good thing they did that, for many reason. Now that Avid has listen to it's customer base and made the software open to work with any third party interface, they simply moved the authorization part to the Ilok (which you already needed anyways to run the plugins licenses). Until Pt 9, you needed to dongle your PT apps to an interface, unless you had the MP version where you already had the Ilok as a mean to make it work. I'm not sure if you're talking of the Ilok as the part where they are becoming control freaky. Version 1.2 of AmpKit, the Guitar World Gold Award-winning guitar amps, effects and recording. What I see happening is Avid becoming unnecessarily control freaky. Good news- Apple rolled out an update to GarageBand yesterday which. It would be a hook to draw more potential users into using the full version. Just attach your electric guitar or bass using an interface like Peavey AmpKit LiNK HD & rock out The paid AmpKit+ app includes 4 amps and matching cabinets, 10 pedals and 8 mics at less than half price. You wouldn't be able too do much with it, but that's not the point from a business standpoint. AmpKit transforms your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch into a powerful guitar amp & effects studio. It would be a great way to introduce people to Protools. I really do think it would be a smart move. A few weeks ago, before I knew anything about this, I joked that Avid should come out with a lite version of Protools to run on an iPad.
